Liverpool held by Newcastle but stay top

Liverpool were held to a goal-less draw by Newcastle at St James’s Park but stay top of the Premiership, three points clear of Manchester United, who have a game in hand.

Liverpool’s Salah, Mane and Fabinio all had chances but found Darlow in superb form to deny the league leaders.

Jurgen Klopp did not sound too downbeat at the whistle saying it was not the end of the world.

Liverpool have been strong at home but their away form has slumped with just two wins from eight.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce was delighted with his side’s performance against arguably one of the best teams in the world with Newcastle now up to 14th in the league.
