Professor Edward Scicluna on Wednesday resigned from parliament after being appointed as Governor of the Central Bank.
He has been Minister of Finance since his election in 2013 and was the driving force behind Malta’s progress from debt ridden to a country with a solid financial status.
Now the process has begun to select his successor from the seventh district, which comprises Zebbug, Dingli, Mgarr, Mtarfa, Rabat, Bahrija and Tal-Virtu(Rabat).
Net News claims this could be a headache for the Labour Party. The Nationalist Party media alleges that former Nationalist Party member Jeffery Pullicino Orlando is not wanted by Labour.
Pullicino Orlando contested the 2017 General Election on the Labour ticket but failed to get elected.
