Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has ordered a national partial lockdown over Christmas in a move he described as “painful”.
Italy, the first Western country to be hit by the coronavirus, registered nearly 67,900 deaths on Friday.
The new restrictions will mean no Christmas lunches in restaurants and permits outings only for work, health reasons, and necessities like grocery shopping or going to the pharmacy.
