As Russia prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies over Nazi Germany in the Second World War, Vladimir Putin declared a three-day cease-fire.
The 72-hour ceasefire will run when Putin hosts international leaders on Moscow’s Red Square, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appears to be open to the proposal but hopes it will be longer: “We believe that a ceasefire is possible at any moment, even starting today, and should last at least 30 days to give diplomacy a real chance.”
