More than 500 cases of discrimination have been opened with the Commission on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from January 2020 to date.
During a visit by the Minister for Inclusion and Quality of Life Julia Farrugia Portelli to the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Birkirkara, it was announced that since January 2020 so far more than 500 cases have been opened on discrimination against persons with disabilities. Cases of discrimination, including in the field of education, employment, health, housing, provision of services, as well as accessibility. This number also includes investigations related to the blue badge. More than 60% of these cases have been closed.
Minister for Inclusion and Quality of Life Julia Farrugia Portelli, who also had the opportunity to meet with workers within the Commission, said how, “Much work has been done in this area and there is still work to be done. Whatever is done, however, the results achieved over the years drive us to continue working hard towards greater inclusion in everyday life by people with disabilities. Where this is not possible, then we must still work to ensure that there is no form of disadvantage, no form of discrimination against people with disabilities, in any form whatsoever, because after all they are people as others. I will be working closely with the Commission to ensure that nothing undermines the rights of people with disabilities, to achieve the goals set by the Commission.”
The Commission on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is committed to making Maltese society inclusive, so that people with disabilities reach their full potential.
