Malta is the best in Europe in strengthening employment

Malta has been the best country in the European Union in strengthening employment. This emerges from a report issued by the European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat, which shows that, while European countries have seen unemployment explode, Malta has kept workers in employment and unemployment has remained relatively stable.

24 out of 27 European countries saw their unemployment rise in the third quarter of this year compared to last year.

Of the three countries that have seen growth; Malta, Poland and Luxembourg, Malta recorded the highest growth – that of 2.4%.

This further confirms how much the measures taken by the government earlier this year in favor of businesses and workers have borne fruit.

Minister of Finance and Labor Clyde Caruana said; “Measures such as the COVID-19 wage supplement and direct aids to Maltese businesses have been instrumental in preventing workers from losing their jobs. Next year we will see the pandemic controlled by the vaccine, and as the economic recovery begins around the world, our country will be in an excellent position to make this recovery strong. ”
