Agriculture Minister in consultation meeting with farmers and ranchers in Gozo

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Animal Rights Anton Refalo met with farmers and villagers in Gozo following an invitation to them for consultation sessions. The main purpose of this meeting was to enable everyone to contribute and to provide the necessary information through discussions. MEUSAC representatives were present at the meeting to draw up a strategic plan to address the needs for the coming years.

The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Animal Rights is working hard because it believes that the agricultural sector has strong potential especially in the economy of our country.

During the meeting farmers and villagers heard their voices and spoke about their concerns and for their children while discussing topics on the progress made in implementing the national agricultural policy, the services offered by – ministry and how to encourage young farmers to work in the agricultural sector and what aids and investments need to be made in the future that can be financed by European funds in the next seven years.

Minister Refalo said the government must work side by side with farmers and ranchers to address the challenges both locally and at European level. He added that although much work has already been done in recent months, he is still looking at what more can be done to strengthen, protect, sustain and put the sector in the best interest of farmers and farmers.
