Prime Minister Robert Abela welcomed to the Auberge de Castille Michael Mifsud who a few days ago retired from the national football team with his last game being a friendly match against the National team of Liechtenstein, at the Ta ‘Qali National Stadium, where he was among the scorers.
Prime Minister Robert Abela thanked Michael Mifsud for his service to the national team and said the whole country was proud of what he had achieved.
Dr Abela presented a souvenir to Mifsud while the Maltese player reciprocated with a National team shirt award to the Prime Minister.
Michael Mifsud played for almost 20 consecutive years for Malta wearing the national team jersey no less than 143 times and scored 42 goals.
Mifsud also had a long career abroad where he played for teams such as FC Kaiserslautern, Lillestrom and Coventry City among others.
In Malta he started playing for Sliema Wanderers and is currently a player of the Sirens team.
Accompanying Prime Minister Robert Abela was Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima. Also present was the Vice President of the Malta Football Association, Architect Ludovico Micallef.
