Prime Minister Robert Abela and the government congratulate Mons. Mario Grech following the announcement that His Holiness Pope Francis will create him Cardinal on November 28, along with 12 others.
This appointment means that he will be the third Maltese to be appointed cardinal in the history of the country.
This is certainly an honor and privilege for Mons. Grech but also an honor for Malta and for Gozo as a whole.
He will be the first Gozitan to be appointed cardinal.
Mons. Grech had already been given an important role by Pope Francis as Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops after serving as Bishop of Gozo.
Mons. Grech is known for the way he mentioned many social issues during his speeches and made very strong arguments in favor of strengthening our society.
