Spain declares Covid-19 State of Emergency

Spain's PM Pedro Sanchez

Spain has declared a national state of emergency in an effort to help control a new spike in Covid-19 infections.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said the country would be under a night-time curfew, between 11pm and 6am and would last for 15 days although he plans to ask parliament to extend the curfew for up to six months.

Italy has introduced new measures after experiencing a surge in coronavirus cases and France has seen the number of new cases reach record highs.
