Prime Minister Robert Abela said the government’s goal was for workers and employers to have a guaranteed income.

Dr Abela was holding a consultation meeting with the Employers’ Association, the MEA, in the Auberge de Castille as part of a series of meetings in connection with the Budget for next year.

The Prime Minister said that while there are several challenges due to the pandemic, the government has found a community of employers that is resilient and not ready to give up.

He spoke about the importance of the measures taken by the government in recent months to keep the field of work healthy and said that he was confident that if we continue to work carefully, with a sense of discipline and responsibility by observing the measures of the health authorities, he is convinced that in a few more months, the country will be able to move forward and continue where we left off a few months ago.

During the meeting, MEA Vice President Arthur Muscat presented several proposals for the 2021 Budget which were made in consultation with 900 companies which together employ around 60,000 workers.

He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity given to the association to be consulted in connection with the 2021 Budget particularly in the hard times of the pandemic. He described the proposals as valuable and meaningful for the government to adopt.
