The Valletta Pageant of the Seas, taking place on Sunday 16th of August in the Grand Harbour, is open to attendance by the general public, with the Valletta Cultural Agency taking the necessary measures and recommending the public to follow all instructions issued by the Health Authorities.
Those attending the Valletta Cultural Agency’s biannual event can enjoy the spectacle from the Ta’ Liesse area on the Valletta side of the Harbour, as well as being broadcast live on Television Malta.
The nautical event kicks off at 6.30pm with Tellieqa Telliqun, an entertaining competition in the Grand Harbour between a number of teams who will be racing their homemade sea crafts without the use of traditional oars and engines. Following this, a regatta will take place with solely female rowers, the first of its kind for the Valletta Pageant of the Seas.
Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera said, “The Valletta Pageant of the Seas is a great opportunity for the local and international arts sector as well as a fun, unique event for the whole family to enjoy during these summer days”.
Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef said that, “the Valletta Pageant of the Seas, which is now part of the VCA cultural programme as a continuation of the Valletta 2018 legacy, is one of the largest events we will be organising this year, among various activities planned for the capital this summer.”
Following the regatta, 40 sailing boats and 20 smaller vessels will be presenting a spectacle on the sea bearing the name of Il-Mappa. Under the direction of international Artistic Director Chris Baldwin, the sails of these boats will be transformed into screens showing projections specially designed for this occasion. The musical direction is developed by Andrew Alamango and with visuals by Charlie Cauchi, these screens will show images accompanied by music and the voices of several Beltin who will be narrating their stories.
The event will come to a close with a firework display to illuminate the Grand Harbour.
