Minister for Foreign Affairs, George Vella, met with the Director of the Directorate for European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Dilberović, at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Valletta.
During the meeting, the two men discussed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU Perspective, with particular reference to the recent positive developments including the September 2016 Council Conclusions which call on the Commission to deliver its Opinion on the candidate status of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Minister Vella welcomed these developments and assured Mr Dilberović of Malta’s continued support for the country’s path to EU integration, and its support for the EU aspirations of all the Western Balkan countries.
Further to this, Minister Vella provided an overview of Malta’s priorities during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, which include the Mediterranean, migration and maritime affairs. Notwithstanding this, the Minister noted that due attention will be given to the entire Western Balkan region and Malta will ensure that this is kept on the EU Agenda over the coming months. Minister Vella and Mr Dilberović also discussed common challenges, including the issues of migration and counterterrorism.
In addition, Mr Edin Dilberović met with the Director for European Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for further discussions on Malta’s objectives and views on Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans, as well as Ambassador Victor Camilleri, Executive Director for the EU Presidency 2017, in view of Malta’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU.
