European Parliament votes against Leo Brincat’s nomination

The members of the European Parliament voted against the nomination of Leo Brincat to the European Court of Auditors with 381 members voting against him.

The European People’s Party, the largest party in the EP, and which the Nationalist Party is a member, voted against Leo Brincat who had 229 votes in favour of his nomination. There were 58 absentions.

Leo Brincat said he will continue to press ahead with his nomination which now goes before the Council of Ministers where a final decision will be taken.

The vote has naturally received a mixed reception in Malta with the Opposition reveling in the fact that Nationalist MEP’s voted against a Maltese candidate.

The government said the PN were playing political games.

The Labour Party argued that partisan politics were more important to the Nationalist Party than the interests of the country.
