Western Union Supports Earthquake Relief Efforts in Italy

The Western Union Company and the Western Union Foundation announced a multi-faceted response involving Western Union employees, individuals, Agents, business customers and other business partners to provide support for families and communities most affected in Italy by the recent earthquake.

Fexserv Financial Services, main agent in Malta for Western Union Money Transfer service, is part of the initiative in the relief efforts in Italy by the Western Union Company. David Borg Hedley, Fexserv General Manager, commented ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of life in Amatrice and our thoughts remain with all those who have been affected by such a traumatic event’.

Western Union Foundation Chairman, John Dye said, “Italy’s worst earthquake since 2009 has caused devastation with significant loss of life and damage to property. The Western Union Foundation is responding with support for relief efforts, helping address the most critical needs and help begin the long-term recovery process.”

To further help people contribute to relief efforts, Western Union implemented a ‘zero transfer fee’ for all money transfers sent from Malta to Italy through participating

Agent locations around the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, L’Aquila, Perugia, Rieti, Teramo and Terni from 31 st August to 9 th September 2016.

Money will be available in cash for pick up in minutes at any of the 450 participating Agent locations in Italy.

Due to the severity of the earthquake, some Western Union Agent locations around the affected areas, may not be immediately operational or possess sufficient funds.
