The beautification project of Father Martin Caruana Garden in Rabat inaugurated

The beautification work carried out on the Parti Martin Caruana Garden, in San Dominick Square, in Rabat, was inaugurated. This beautification work was carried out through the work embarked on by the Local Council of Rabat, with the support of European funds with the aim of increasing sustainability in favor of the use of rainwater.
The beautification of this garden led to new paving and replacement of benches that were equipped to accommodate all the elements and new lights were installed that are efficient in the use of energy. This was done with an investment of more than half a million euros.
“It is gratifying for me to once again see a beautification project whose primary objective is environmental sustainability, i.e. a project that sees that the benefit of rainwater is not lost, with the intention of absorbed by the ground water while we continue to install efficient lighting in the use of energy,” said the Minister of the Environment Miriam Dalli. She recalled that even through the Energy and Water Agency, EWA, in Rabat itself a roof garden was created on the Eye Center through which the agency will also analyze the quality of water leakage of rain from the green roof. Minister Dalli also announced that Project Green will be entering into an agreement with the Victoria Local Council so that this area of Father Martin Caruana’s Garden will continue to be green.
The Mayor of Rabat, Sandro Craus, explained that the council took the opportunity to apply for funds under the Interreg program; Italia-Malta, and included this garden work in his application so that they can fix it and create a safe space for the residents. With the GIFLUID application, the garden project has at its center the goal that the rainwater that falls throughout the garden space, is absorbed into the ground water to make it sustainable. In fact, a permeable material was used to keep the rainwater flowing. For these funds, the council partnered with the Water and Energy Agency.
