He said that the infrastructural investment being made in the sports sector is unprecedented. An investment that is not only linked to national sports facilities, which have been given an international level, but an investment is being made in the sports infrastructure in the educational sector. “We are doing this because we believe that we should provide sports facilities, facilities for physical activity and recreation in schools that are also of quality,” said Minister Grima.
The Minister mentioned the investment of €1 million on projects of sports grounds in schools, with the aim of improving the sports infrastructure in State schools both for recreational purposes and to improve the level of sports education. A stadium is being built in the educational complex in Naxxar which will complement the existing sports facilities in the cluster of schools in Naxxar, mainly Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School, the Middle School in Maria Regina College, and the Language Induction Hub which forms part of the same College. This field will be spread over 9,800 square meters and will include a pitch for 11-a-side games and a stand for spectators. Apart from these, many other facilities including a gymnasium, sanitary facilities, showers and changing rooms. Under the stadium there will be parking for around 500 cars. The excavation work of the site, as well as of the tunnel that will connect the field to the school, were finished in October 2023, and last November the construction started.
