Last Friday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia together with Deputy Speaker David Agius held a meeting with Member of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales and Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Cities, Transport and Roads Mark Owen Taylor.
Speaker Farrugia and MP Taylor referred to the excellent relations which exist between Malta and New South Wales and Australia at large, primarily due to the large Maltese community present in the country. They also spoke about mutual challenges the respective parliaments are tackling, specifically the environment and energy sourcing, as well as the pressing need for more open and green spaces in open areas where available.
Speaker Farrugia and Deputy Speaker Agius also spoke about the active participation of the Maltese Parliament in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), specifically in the Small Branches branch of the CPA. Speaker Farrugia also highlighted the establishment of a Chairperson of the Small Branches, where he was elected as the first Chairperson, which position joined the Executive Committee of the Association.
