In the coming weeks, the government will request € 60 million from the Recovery Plan

Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett addresses the annual event on Malta’s RRP organised by the European Commission Representation in Malta

In the coming weeks, the Maltese Government will make a formal request for our country to be given € 60 million of what is allocated to Malta from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, announced the Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett when addressing a conference Annual Report on the Recovery and Resilience Plan organized by the Representation of the European Commission in Malta.

The parliamentary secretary said that Malta will make this request after successfully carrying out seventeen reforms and two major investments. The government is currently committed to achieving 38 targets by the end of this year. From the Recovery Plan Malta has already been given € 41 million as a pre-financing payment.

Dr Bonett explained that as a result of the strong economic growth that tghe country has had over the past year, there will be a review of the amount of funds that Malta will be receiving under the Recovery Plan. In the first quarter of the year, the Maltese economy grew by 7.6 percent and according to a European Commission report next year Malta will have the second largest economic growth among the countries of the European Union .

“Work is currently underway to ensure that the projects to be carried out under the Recovery Plan are carried out anyway, but from the European funding package 2021-2027 of € 2.2 billion, the largest funding package ever negotiated. the Maltese Government, ”emphasized Dr Bonett.

From the Recovery Plan, Malta will carry out many projects in favor of clean energy and digitalisation. The parliamentary secretary said that this week the government launched € 20 million schemes for businesses to carry out initiatives in their buildings in favor of clean energy and more schemes on digitization for businesses will be launched in the coming days.

Dr Bonett said that the island of Gozo will also benefit from this plan, in particular to carry out reforms and investments on the transition to the green economy and the digital core. One of the projects is the core for clean energy at Nadur Primary School.

Parliamentary Secretary Bonett concluded by saying that the government is committed to carrying out this ambitious plan which will continue to be enjoyed by the Maltese people, with more projects in various fields, including energy, environment, education and health. He said that the reforms that will be carried out by this plan will continue to modernize the economy in order to be more resilient.
