More than 400 seniors will enjoy the services that the first multi-disciplinary clinic will be offering, which will be offering a safe and private environment. This was announced by the Minister for the Elderly and Active Aging Michael Farrugia when earlier today he inaugurated the first clinic of its kind in Malta in Mtarfa, as part of the ‘Government for the people’ campaign.
He said the Department of Active Aging and Community Care will also be expanding this service by opening other multi-disciplinary clinics in every government nursing home.
During the inauguration of the first clinic, Minister Farrugia said that this service will offer comprehensive care to 413 elderly people and the service will also be used by various professionals in the health sector including physiotherapists, occupational therapists. , speech language pathologists, podiatrists, psychotherapists, doctors and geriatricians.
He added that the Department of Active Aging and Community Care has invested in modernizing the clinic and purchased equipment that is used by different professionals and that reflects today’s needs. In fact, the clinic is equipped with everything the senior needs, including a bladder scanner and a portable magnifying lens.
Minister Farrugia explained that the need for such clinics was felt most during the pandemic. Prior to the introduction of these clinics, the service was provided in the senior’s room, which is often shared with other residents and therefore the environment did not offer the necessary privacy.
