Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg visited the heart of Rabat where he announced a new development in the project that Infrastructure Malta is carrying out around the The Basilica of St. Paul, in Rabat. Among the works being carried out, the arch at the entrance to the pedestrian zone, which was originally built towards the end of the 19th century, will be restored to its original state.
In this project, which began last year, Infrastructure Malta has embellished the present road found as soon as one enters through this arch and which is also used as a passageway from Triq il-Kbira to the Basilica of St. Paul.
Minister Ian Borg said, “Our infrastructural commitment applies to infrastructure on every level. Once again, we are investing in better quality and safer infrastructure that is also more in line with the historical environment of the area. This Government is working for the communities and villages in order to bring out their diverse and rich identities. This project will be another from a link of projects that not only invest in our communities but also in our tourism as this part of Rabat is amongst the most visited by tourists when visiting our country.”
Through this work, Infrastructure Malta is improving the main passage leading to the square in front of the Basilica and to Triq Santa Rita. This path was further emellished by the planting of 12 olive trees.
Infrastructure Malta is extending this project by also paving the part where the kennierja is found and thus, in addition to the arch, the structure of the churchyard will also be restored.
