US President Donald Trump announced on Friday, 6 November, that deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller would replace Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff. Trump said Miller would take up the role on Monday, 9 November, and that Wiles would move to his political operation.
The announcement came three days after the US midterm elections, in which Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Trump announced the change on Truth Social, where he praised Wiles’s work.
Wiles submitted her resignation on Thursday night, a US official told CBS News, according to the BBC. In a statement on Friday, Wiles said she would remain committed to Trump as she moved into her new role. She was the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff, the Associated Press reported.
Miller joined Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign as a speechwriter and served as a senior adviser during his first administration. He returned to the White House as deputy chief of staff and has helped shape Trump’s hard-line immigration policies across both terms.
