The ceremony celebrated athletes’ performances and dedication, alongside international successes and lifetime contributions to equestrian sport in Malta.
Rodney Gatt received two awards, including Driver of the Year. He said the recognition reflected the sacrifices and dedication behind his results, as well as the commitment of others involved in the sport.
Education and Sport Minister Byron Camilleri congratulated the winners and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting athletes, associations and federations while investing in modern facilities.
Camilleri said further improvements to the horse racing track were being studied, with a vision of developing it into a comprehensive sporting complex. Work is also continuing to address the polo club’s challenges, with the aim of providing a modern ground for a sport with almost 150 years of tradition in Malta.
The minister highlighted Redent Magro’s achievement as the second Maltese winner of the FEGAT World Trotting Championship, hosted in Malta last month. He also praised the Malta Equestrian Federation’s investment in the MonteKristo arena, supported by EquestriMalta.
Camilleri said Budget 2027 provides nearly €28 million for sport, an increase of 43% on the previous year, with a substantial share allocated to improving sporting infrastructure.
EquestriMalta chief executive Max Zammit described the awards as an opportunity to showcase athletes’ achievements nationally. He highlighted continued support for associations, athletes and sporting horses’ welfare, alongside international events and educational initiatives.
