In the Auberge de Castille, Prime Minister Robert Abela had a meeting with the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner who is in Malta while our country is hosting the MED5 meeting, a Ministerial Conference between five Member States of the European Union that discuss the common priority among them, that of migration.
The Prime Minister stressed that as we move towards the implementation of the Pact for Migration and Asylum, we must complement this with other actions, including speeding up the negotiation process for the Return Regulation and the legislative framework for the European Union to have a list of safe countries of origin to continue to facilitate the process of returning immigrants who do not deserve asylum.
Also present at the meeting with the Prime Minister were the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Byron Camilleri, the Head of the Secretariat in the Office of the Prime Minister, Colonel Mark Mallia, and the Prime Minister's Advisor on European Affairs, Leandro Borg.
