Addressing the Jum IL-Helsein ceremony,( Freedom Day),marking 47 years since British forces withdrew from the island, Prime Minister Robert Abela spoke of how life for Maltese has improved.

He said the Labour government plans by 2030 to have 25% of the country’s energy generated from renewable sources. Everyone will have access to such renewable energy, even those who cannot have installations at their home.

Robert Abela talked of the financial stability of Malta.

“In other European countries, families and businesses are currently being crushed by the burdens of the market. Because their governments have let the market take its course. And here in Malta, instead, we ensure price stability, and that the prices of electricity, fuel and gas do not increase by a single cent. Outside Malta, unemployment is rising and here in Malta we are adding 40 jobs every day. For the first time, I come here before you and with a sense of pride I tell you – today there is no European country that has an employment rate as high as ours.”

Dr Abela spoke of how the vision for Malta by 2050 is the project that supports the economic freedom of Malta.

He said the Freedom event of 31 March 1979, “was a decision of a movement that wanted social freedom, economic freedom and freedom of thought.”

In closing, Prime Minister Robert Abela appealed for all Maltese to be one and united people, while working for a Better Malta.
