Nominations open for the 11th edition of the Gozo Sports Awards

The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri announced that nominations have opened for the 11th edition of the Gozo Sports Awards where for another year, Gozitan sportspeople will be rewarded for their advancements in various sports disciplines.

Minister Clint Camilleri stated that the Gozo Sports Awards remain an important platform to give deserved recognition to Gozitan sportspeople who, with dedication and commitment, continue to raise the name of Gozo in various sports disciplines, both on a local and international level. He continued that “these honours not only celebrate success, but also serve as an inspiration for future generations to get more involved in sport and an active lifestyle. That is why as a Government we wanted to provide our athletes with state of the art facilities where they can do their training, such as the Sports and Aquatics Pavilion that we are in today. Moreover, facilities that are being enjoyed by people of all ages.”

Sports organisations are invited to submit their nominations for one or more of the categories based on performances and achievements in the year 2025 at events that took place in Gozo, Malta or abroad.

The categories that will be awarded are:

Official of the Year: a person who serves in the administration of an Association, Club or event;

Coach of the Year: a qualified person who was engaged by an Association, Club or regional selection;

Team of the Year: a team that has represented Gozo or a local Club;

Active Athlete Award over 45 years of age (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning);

Sports Career Award: (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning);

Special Olympics Special Recognition (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning);

Promising Young Person: A young person not older than 21 years of age who has represented Gozo or a local Club;

Promising Young Person: A young person not older than 21 years of age who has represented Gozo or a local Club;

Sportswoman of the Year: A sportswoman not nominated in the Young Promising Athlete category who has represented Gozo or a local Club;                                                     and Sportswoman of the Year: A sportswoman not nominated in the Young Promising Athlete category who has represented Gozo or a local Club.

Individuals may nominate another individual only when there is no respective sports organisation. Where there is a sports organisation, nominations cannot be submitted by individuals. A sports organisation may only submit one nomination in each category. Individuals cannot nominate themselves.

Applications, opened today, Monday 16th February 2026, and can be completed online at mygozo.gov.mt or at gozo.gov.mt. These must be submitted by noon on Monday, March 9, 2026. The results will be announced during the final evening to be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
