Around 140 elderly men and women came together in St. Vincent de Paul for the second edition of ‘Ikla bi Mħabba’, an initiative that offers special moments for the residents of St. Vincent as well as elderly people from other residences.
An initiative of the wife of the Prime Minister, Dr. Lydia Abela, this activity was held again on the occasion of St. Valentine’s Day, with the aim of conveying a message of love and respect even among the elderly. The activity also sent an important message in favour of solidarity in moments where there is also loneliness.
As in the first edition, Dr Abela was joined again by four main participants from the MasterChef Malta programme – Andrew Debattista, Leigh Spiteri Chircop, Francesco Sultana and Antoine Micallef who together with the management and staff of St Vincent De Paul prepared a special meal, specially designed to be enjoyed by the elderly present.
The activity in a wonderful atmosphere was accompanied by entertainment from singers Glen Vella, Tiziana Calleja, Sarah Bonnici and Jasmine Abela. Dr Abela stressed the importance of continuing to show our appreciation towards the elderly and pointed out that intergenerational solidarity is an important value that we should continue to nurture in our society.
Dr Abela said that through this initiative we are continuing to create beautiful moments among the most vulnerable and sending a message that we need to take care of each other. The elderly expressed their joy and appreciation for this initiative, which for many of them was a wonderful opportunity to meet together.
