The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) informs the public and operators in the construction sector that, in light of the extreme weather warning that is affecting thr country, the services of the Authority’s Enforcement Department will not be affected and will continue to operate normally.
While the Authority appeals for any construction work, particularly outdoor work, to be temporarily suspended for safety reasons, enforcement operations, site monitoring and necessary interventions will continue without interruption.
The Authority urges contractors to take all necessary precautionary measures, including to: • leave construction sites clean and tidy,
• remove or secure any material that may be carried or blown away by the wind,
• ensure that machinery is left in a safe position,
• verify that temporary structures, hoarding and facades are stable and in a condition to withstand winds expected to reach up to force 9. Each contractor remains fully responsible for identifying, mitigating and addressing any potential or existing hazards on the respective construction site.
Although the Authority’s offices in Marsa and Floriana will be physically closed to the public on Tuesday, 20 January, due to the extreme weather conditions, this will in no way affect the services of the Enforcement Department, which will remain available to respond to reports, complaints and risk situations. The general public as well as operators in the sector are encouraged to continue to report any danger or violation related to construction works via the 138 helpline, which remains the official contact point of the Building and Construction Authority.
The Authority reiterates its appeal for responsibility and compliance with regulations and safety measures, while assuring the public that enforcement will continue in a full and effective manner despite the extreme weather.
