Minister for Culture, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici, during a visit he made during the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2026 rehearsals, stressed that the Government’s support for this festival forms part of a broader strategy to invest in the artistic and creative ecosystem in its various and diverse forms.
Minister Bonnici emphasised that this year’s production focuses on the full development of local artistic talent. This includes not only singers, but also authors, composers, choreographers and technical designers who are the foundation of the industry. “Our vision is to provide an ever-increasing international platform to a wider range of professionals involved in the creative process, by investing in the artist as a whole so that the best Maltese talent reaches new levels of excellence.
The Eurovision Song Contest itself is then an opportunity to foster dialogue and cooperation between various countries through culture,” stated Minister Bonnici. The Minister thanked more than 700 workers, including technicians and public broadcasting workers, who are working tirelessly in Ta’ Qali. He noted that this festival is a testament to the valuable work and synergy of the Maltese creative economy, and a moment where the country can feel proud to be able to show what it has to offer the whole world.
The journey to the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna begins this week with two major live broadcasts on Television Malta. During the Semi-Final on Thursday 15th January, all 18 original songs will be performed, from which 12 finalists will be selected to advance. The festival will culminate in the Final on Saturday 17th January, when Malta will choose its representative for the international stage.
The Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will be hosted by Keane Cutajar, alongside two Eurovision icons, Gaia Cauchi and Destiny, who will also offer special performances. Also taking part will be Jamie Cardona, Ivan Grech and last year’s winner, Miriana Conte.
One of the highlights of this edition is the long-awaited return of the legendary group Scream Daisy, who will take to the stage to celebrate their music. In addition, we will also see international stars Tommy Cash and 2024 runner-up, Baby Lasagna, adding a global dimension to the event.
