The facts regarding the housing building case in Vittoriosa

The Ministry for Social and Affordable Housing categorically denies the allegations being made by the Opposition regarding the housing building in Vittoriosa.

Until this building is renovated, preventive technical measures have been taken to avoid further deterioration and any risk to public safety. Among these measures was the installation of scaffolding along the facade of the building as well as the installation of structural support props, which were crucial in order to avoid further damage, particularly after the severe storms that hit our country in recent days.

Following the recent incident, an internal investigation is underway to determine what caused the parapet to collapse, despite the necessary safety works having already been carried out. At the same time, immediate interventions were carried out on site to remove any hazardous materials, while appropriate clean-up will continue and ensure the safety of surrounding residents.

This is a building that has been uninhabitable and in a deteriorating condition for many years, and which is now being addressed in a concrete, serious and responsible manner.

The Ministry’s priority remains the safety of residents and the public, as well as the necessary intervention to permanently stabilize the building, in accordance with the applicable legal framework.
