New book highlights key moments of the 2025 Maltese Presidency of the Council of Europe

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, through the Permanent Representation of Malta to the Council of Europe, has published a limited-edition photo book, ‘Il-Presidenza ta’ Malta’, commemorating the 2025 Maltese Presidency of the Council of Europe.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg launched the publication at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta, this week, in the presence of officials from different entities, diplomats, experts in various fields, as well as artists, who contributed to the Maltese Presidency, between 14th May and 14th November 2025.

The 200-page book includes photos of the most memorable moments of the Presidency’s policy and cultural programmes, a lasting visual legacy of Malta’s contributions and achievements in circa 70 initiatives in Malta and in Strasbourg, the seat of the Council of Europe.

The book also features messages, in Maltese and in English, by the President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono, Prime Minister Robert Abela, Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg, who served as the President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe during Malta’s Presidency, as well as the Council’s Secretary General Alain Berset and the President of its Parliamentary Assembly Theodorus Rousopoulos, amongst other officials.

In his address during the book launch, Deputy Prime Minister Borg thanked all entities, organisations and individuals who contributed to the success of Malta’s Presidency, which coincided with the 60th anniversary of Malta’s membership in the Council of Europe.

“This Presidency has reaffirmed our commitment to European values, as we worked for dialogue and genuine cooperation, while continuing to uphold fundamental values – we listened to everyone, and we were never indifferent in the face of suffering and injustice. We continue to be a bridge between nations and differing perspectives,” he stated.

Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici and Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli, as well as the Head of the Maltese Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Naomi Cachia, also participated in the book launch. The event was also addressed by Ambassador Francesca Camilleri Vettiger, the Permanent Representative of Malta to the Council of Europe, as well as Sean Buhagiar, the Presidency’s Artistic Director.

Copies of ‘Il-Presidenza ta’ Malta, A Visual Legacy of Malta’s Presidency of the Council of Europe 2025’, were distributed to the guests during the book launch, against a donation for this year’s L-Istrina, the Boxing Day telethon in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.
