The Sedqa Agency within the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, FSWS, in collaboration with the Institute for Tourism Studies, ITS, has launched a booklet of recipes for different mocktails.
Mocktails are creative drinks, similar to alcoholic cocktails, but containing no alcohol, aimed at serving families, young people and professionals in the hospitality sector, especially during these festive times. This mocktail recipe booklet aims to raise awareness of fresh and attractive alternatives that can be mixed and served in any setting, without the risks associated with alcohol.
A slightly different initiative, which conveys a strong message that to have fun or be entertained you don’t have to drink or abuse alcohol or drugs. Details about all this were given on Wednesday morning, at the ITS Campus, in Luqa.
The Sedqa Agency took this initiative as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle and responsible choices at social events.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, commended Aġenzija Sedqa and ITS for this collaboration with a social purpose, to encourage communities in Malta and Gozo to prioritize their own health and well-being and that of those around them. Alcohol abuse not only ruins festivities, but can have far worse consequences for those affected.
“In our commitment towards sustainable and responsible entertainment and tourism, ITS’s participation in this initiative ensures that this civic sense continues to be fostered even in the hospitality sector, which must be able to offer these alternatives to the Maltese and the tourists it serves,” explained Dr Borg.

The Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, praised the work carried out by Sedqa, which has continued to develop its services, in harmony with what is constantly evolving in the substance abuse scene, and with particular reflection based on the ideas of the public health service. “Alcohol and drug abuse are not the solution. They are only the beginning of a path of further challenges that will continue to grow as time goes by. Hence the importance of continuing to strengthen awareness and education about the negative consequences linked to these addictions, from a young age,” stated Minister Michael Falzon.
FSWS Chief Executive Officer, Alfred Grixti praised the role of Aġenzija Sedqa for this innovative initiative and the ongoing educational awareness that begins early in schools.
Sedqa and FSWS thanked ITS and Farsons for their valuable collaboration. Their contribution was essential in creating a quality product that can be used both in the community and in the hospitality sector. Copies of the booklet will be available to the public through the services of Aġenzija Sedqa.
