Airbus Orders Immediate Grounding of Half of Global A320 Fleet Over Software Issue
Airbus has ordered airlines to ground roughly half of the world’s A320 fleet to correct an urgent flight-control software problem, a move that has disrupted thousands of flights worldwide.
The company said Friday that operators must implement an immediate software update to ensure the aircraft’s flight-control systems remain fully reliable. The issue affects about 6,000 A320-family jets, according to reporting from Reuters.
With approximately 11,300 A320s currently in service, the action represents one of the largest recalls in Airbus’s 55-year history, prompting widespread cancellations and operational challenges for airlines across multiple regions.
Airbus has not yet indicated how long the grounding is expected to last but said it is working with carriers to expedite the fixes.
