KM Malta Airlines’ fleet of Airbus A320 planes are not impacted by a major upgrade alert issued by the aircraft manufacturer, the airline said on Saturday.

Six of the national airline’s eight planes were checked overnight by KM Malta engineers.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued an emergency airworthiness directive on Friday, warning that this measure “may cause short-term disruption to flight schedules and therefore inconvenience to passengers,” while emphasising that safety was paramount.

The directive followed an incident  on October 30th when a JetBlue A320 plane suddenly nosedived as it travelled between Cancun in Mexico and Newark in the United States before diverting to Tampa, Florida.
