Valletta's Christmas lights switched on

Minister for Culture, Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici, together with the Chairman of the Valletta Cultural Agency Jason Micallef, the Mayor of Valletta Olaf McKay, artist Henry Galea and his team, and Bay Radio presenters Jamie and Taryn, officially launched this year’s Christmas programme in the Capital during a ceremony during which the lights on the main streets of the City were also switched on, as well as the Christmas Tree being lit.

Tuesday evening’s special event in Liberty Square, Valletta, marked the start of the programme of events entitled Christmas in the Capital.

This year too, the streets and main squares of the Capital have been adorned with interactive Christmas art installations that will continue the magical atmosphere in the Capital. The Christmas in the Capital programme, then, includes the traditional procession of the Baby Jesus through the streets of Valletta accompanied by a live choir, concerts by local singers Klinsmann, Kevin Paul, The New Victorians and Riona, a parade through the streets of the city by Tikka Banda, interactive activities for children, a choral concert by the prestigious Cappella Musicale Caeciliana Choir at the Jesuit Church Oratory, and the annual massive New Year’s Eve celebrations, which make Valletta the heart of Christmas celebrations in Malta.
