Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri addressed the 10th edition of the Greening the Islands International Conference where he spoke about the Gozo experience and the commitment to sustainability.
The conference themed ‘Expanding Holistic Island-led Solutions to Drive Global Sustainability and Climate Action’ was organised by the Greening the Islands Foundation between 29 and 30 October 2025 and supported the sustainability and self-sufficiency of islands around the world by promoting innovative solutions and ‘nexus-smart projects’.
Minister Camilleri stated that, “despite the small size of the island and the challenge of dual insularity, Gozo remains determined to become a more sustainable and resilient island. Through the Regional Development Strategy for Gozo, the island of Gozo is promoting responsible land use, biodiversity protection, sustainable development and climate change mitigation, while supporting economic growth and preserving its cultural heritage.” Camilleri went on to say that ongoing initiatives which include among others afforestation projects, rainwater harvesting, energy efficiency improvements and the regeneration of parks and green spaces are all contributing to Gozo’s sustainable vision for the future.
This year’s event focused on advancing sustainability in key island sectors, including energy, water, agriculture and tourism, and involved a series of interactive sessions that addressed global challenges while showcasing innovative island-led approaches to the areas of energy security, climate resilience and sustainable development.
Minister Clint Camilleri emphasised the importance of international collaboration in developing tailor-made solutions for island regions. He concluded his speech by reaffirming Gozo’s commitment to continue playing an active role in these international collaborations.
