After a year since work began on the Msida Creek project, the new bridge connecting the Ta’ Xbiex and Pietà banks will be open from Sunday 2 November. Spanning 14 metres over the canal, the bridge marks the completion of an important phase of the project which will not only provide connectivity but will also serve as the mouth of the water channel being formed with the aim of addressing the flooding problem synonymous with the area. This new two-lane road will facilitate the rerouting of the current routes so that the project can move to the next phase, including the creation of a new 2,200 square metre square square in front of the parish church.
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett explained how this investment in infrastructure is happening thanks to the country’s strong economy. He said that this project is not only intended to improve connectivity for vehicles through new roads but is also a project that prioritizes the community.
“This is not just an intervention on a road. This is an investment in the quality of people’s lives, a project that will create open spaces for walking, cycling and physical activity where families can spend time together. The Msida Creek project is a clear example of the good we are doing thanks to a growing economy that is able to invest in projects of value for today and for future generations,” concluded Minister Bonett.
Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul explained that work on the project is being carried out with great care to minimise inconvenience. He stressed that diversions and major works are being carried out on weekends or at night, with clear communication in advance with residents and drivers.
