The Malta Tourism Authority welcomes the latest tourism performance figures for September 2025, which highlight a continued positive trajectory for the industry reflecting the effectiveness of the Authority’s ongoing strategic initiatives.
According to official data, inbound tourist arrivals increased by 10% over the same month in 2024, reaching nearly 394,000 visitors. More significantly, tourism expenditure grew by 21.3%, totaling €466 million, underscoring a shift towards higher-value tourism and improved yield per visitor.
The data also reveal that average tourist spend per night rose by 11.3%, further demonstrating the sector’s enhanced contribution to the Maltese economy. From a demographic perspective, the most notable increase was observed among visitors aged 65 and over, with a 24.3% rise compared to September 2024. This was followed by the 45–64 age group, which registered a 14% increase. Meanwhile, the 0–24 age bracket saw a less modest growth of 3.4%.
Growth was also broad-based across source markets, with particularly strong results from non-EU markets, which surged by 23.5%, reflecting the Authority’s ongoing efforts to diversify Malta’s tourism portfolio beyond traditional European markets.
Commenting on the results, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, Carlo Micallef stated:
“We are pleased to see that the strategic direction we have pursued is yielding tangible and sustainable results. The robust growth in tourism expenditure, particularly from higher-yield segments and non-EU markets, reinforces Malta’s position as a premium destination distinguished by its focus on quality and long-term value. These outcomes underscore our continued commitment to attracting discerning visitors who value Malta’s rich cultural heritage and distinctive historical appeal.”
