An 11-year-old boy from England died while swimming at Ramla l-Ħamra in Gozo on Monday.
Police said they were alerted to the incident at around 1:15 p.m. after the boy and a 37-year-old English man encountered difficulties in the water.
Members of the Armed Forces of Malta and the Civil Protection Department responded to the scene, launching an intensive search by dinghy and helicopter.
The boy received first aid from a medical team and was taken to Gozo General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The search for the 37-year-old man is still ongoing.
