The Phoenicia Malta has secured two more major international hospitality honours,
receiving a MICHELIN Key and claiming the title of Europe’s Leading Landmark Hotel
2025 from World Travel Awards.
The MICHELIN Key is a distinction that applies the same rigorous standards to hotels as
MICHELIN Stars do to restaurants. Initially introduced in 15 countries in 2024 and
unveiled worldwide for the first time this October, the accolade honours hotels
demonstrating character, warm hospitality and outstanding service. Only the properties
that deliver truly exceptional stays make the cut from the MICHELIN Guide’s 7,000-
strong hotel selection worldwide.
Hot on its heels came the 2025 World Travel Awards victory for Malta’s grand dame of
hospitality, which followed a year-long global vote by travel professionals and
consumers that recognised The Phoenicia Malta as the continent’s finest landmark
property. The hotel accepted its trophy at a red-carpet ceremony in Sardinia on 22
October, joining other celebrated historic properties from across Europe.
Established in 1993, World Travel Awards is globally acknowledged as the ultimate
benchmark for excellence across the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors. Votes from
verified travel professionals carry double weight in the selection process to ensure
robust industry validation.
The double win also follows The Phoenicia Malta’s recent recognition in the Condé Nast
Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, marking the latest in an extraordinary sequence of
accolades for Malta’s first five-star hotel.
“To receive a MICHELIN Key and to be recognised as Europe’s Leading Landmark Hotel
2025 at World Travel Awards is a tremendous honour,” says Robyn Pratt, General
Manager at The Phoenicia Malta. “It reflects our team’s dedication to creating
exceptional guest experiences and validates our approach – honouring both the hotel’s
and the island’s heritage while delivering world-class hospitality, meeting and
exceeding the expectations of today’s discerning travellers.”
