Eve Borg Bonello represented Maltese Parliament the 25th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting (IPM25) on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, held between the 17th and 18th of October 2025 in Copenhagen, hosted under the auspices of EUFORES and the Danish EU Council Presidency.

IPM25 is a high-level gathering of Members of Parliament from across the EU, together with stakeholders from the European Commission, national governments, industry, academia and NGOs, to exchange best practices and debate the future direction of renewable energy in Europe. The programme focused on key issues such as the Clean Industrial Deal, the European Green Deal, and national implementation of climate and energy policies.

During her time in Copenhagen, Eve Borg Bonello actively participated in several panels and discussions, advancing the Maltese perspective as a small island state on Europe’s periphery. She underscored both the challenges and opportunities that arise from Malta’s geographical and economic context. In her remarks, she stressed that, despite its constraints, Malta remains firmly committed to advancing green energy alternatives, especially policies and projects that uplift those who are the most vulnerable.

Borg Bonello said that only by ensuring the economic rationale for green energy is made to work for everyone, including the most vulnerable, will it fully succeed.

She insisted with her European counterparts to ensure that legislation, financing mechanisms, and incentive schemes are tailored to bridge regional disparities, support energy-poor households, and ensure that no community is left behind in the shift towards sustainable, low-carbon future.

Borg Bonello said: “Above all, it was an opportunity for exchanging insights with peers from across the EU, while also seeking technical and policy support tailored to island contexts.”

As the Opposition’s voice in the European green debate, Eve Borg Bonello reaffirmed her party’s readiness to contribute constructively to Europe’s greener future.
