Abandoned land that ended up being used for illegal dumping is being transformed into an open space. This was announced by Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleansing Miriam Dalli during a visit to the site.

“Project after project, whether large or small, we are always striving to continue offering more green spaces where residents and our communities can relax, meet, and spend time together. This will be another such space, this time in Ħal Għaxaq, which we are giving back to the residents,” Minister Dalli said.

Apart from the planting of various trees and plants, this project in Ħal Għaxaq will also include benches and a ‘quiet zone’. The space will be irrigated through a water reservoir with a capacity of around 12.4 cubic metres.

Project Manager Dylan Abela Spiteri remarked, “As Project Green, we are working tirelessly to provide more open spaces. As with every project, we always keep sustainability in mind. In this project, we created a permanent reservoir to ensure that the watering of trees and shrubs takes place as needed, and this space will also be powered by solar energy lighting.”

Also present for this visit was Ħal Għaxaq Mayor Karl Boxall together with representatives of the local council.
