Hibernians top the YoHealth Malta Premier following their 2-0 win against bottom side Naxxar Lions.
Cleiton fired them in front after just two minutes and despite the fast start, Hibs had to wait until late in the game for their second goal, Villela making sure of the win.
Floriana bounced back from last week’s defeat to Valletta with a 2-1 win over Marsaxlokk and go second in the premiership, a point behind Hibernians.+
Mustapha Jah gave Floriana the lead near the end of the first half and a second half strike by Jake Grech made the points safe for Floriana and though Marsaxlokk did get on the scoresheet thanks to a last minute own goal, Floriana held on to win: For Marsaxlokk, their second loss in three games.
Hamrun Spartans failed to find the net as they were held to a goal-less draw by Gzira Utd.
Hamrun failed to make the most of the chances they did create and in the end, a single point sees them two points off the lead in third place.
Tarxien Rainbows and Zabbar St. Patrick ended in a 1-1 draw to leave the Rainbows seventh on five points with Zabbar lying joint-third from bottom with Gzira United and Birkirkara.
Pedro Cejas put Zabbabutr in front just before the half hour but Tarxien drew level when Kwasi Donsu equalised eight minutes from time.
