Minister for Social and Affordable Housing Roderick Galdes visited the social housing sector in Tarxien which is one of a number of social housing buildings that are being regenerated.
Extensive works have already been carried out on the facades of a good number of the ten social housing blocks in Tarxien, which together cover seventy-seven apartments. Approximately €650,000 has been invested in this project. The works are being carried out by the Housing Authority in conjunction with Housing Projects Solutions Limited and are intended to not only regenerate the area, but also transform its aesthetic environment.
During the on-site visit, Minister Galdes pointed out that what is being done in Tarxien is not a one-off project but part of a chain of projects in various localities intended to give a new look to the various social housing sectors in our country.

“The main aim of regeneration is to improve the quality of life of residents and raise the standard of the areas where these projects are being carried out. In this way, we will also be addressing the challenges that one finds in a dynamic market such as that of accommodation,” stated Minister Galdes.
He stated that the Government is committed to continuing to link the value of the quality of life of residents with the sustainability of the place where they live. “Committed to continuing the work towards a dignified roof and a quality environment around the social accommodation areas that are of a high level in favour of the dignity of residents,” concluded Minister Galdes.
Similar regeneration works were also carried out in, among others, Gudja, Mosta, Santa Luċija, Marsa, Fgura, Ta’ Giorni, Żejtun and Ħamrun.
