H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Dr Alexander Borg as Leader of the Opposition of Malta.
Following the swearing-in, the President invited the Leader of the Opposition to make a speech, during which he said, “This is a crucial moment. A moment that must unite a country and not divide it, with a policy through which we forget the differences between us, forget the colour red or blue and remember the colour white and red – the colours that unite us all as one people.”
Dr Borg pledged that he would work to see a more united country. The ceremony closed with a speech by the President, congratulating and wishing the Leader of the Opposition good luck and inviting him to act in accordance with the words of unity and togetherness with which he has expressed himself in his speeches since becoming Leader of the Nationalist Party.
The President concluded by urging him to engage youth in politics, and to achieve this through dialogue and calm discussion.
