On Thursday morning, the Ombudsman, Judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon, presented the Ombudsplan 2026 to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anġlu Farrugia.
The presentation was made in accordance with Section 10(4) of the Ombudsman Act, 1995 (Chapter 385 of the Laws of Malta), which requires the Ombudsman to submit the annual plan to the Speaker by the 15th of September each year.
Speaker Farrugia welcomed the Ombudsplan, noting that Parliament has a constitutional duty to ensure that institutions of accountability remain strong and independent. He emphasised that the annual Ombudsplan is a key instrument in this regard, as it outlines the way forward for addressing challenges in public administration.
Following this presentation, the Ombudsplan 2026 will be formally tabled in Parliament after the summer recess.
