More than 1,400 people are believed to have died and thousands more injured after the eastern region of Afghanistan was struck by an earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale.
The worst affected area is in a mountainous rugged area near the border with Pakistan.
“Damaged roads, ongoing aftershocks, and remote locations of many villages severely impede the delivery of aid,” the World Health Organisation said. It added that over 12,000 people had been affected by the quake.
China and India have promised to send aid and supplies to the area.
