The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri announced that the Directorate of Services for Gozo within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning will be organising the 10th edition of the Gozo Sports Awards where for another year, Gozitan sportspeople will be rewarded for their advancements in various sports disciplines.
Minister Camilleri said that “these awards are for us as an island to recognise the efforts and successes of our sportspeople and therefore I encourage everyone to submit their nomination so that a dedicated Board will then evaluate and shortlist. This is a very important activity so that we can continue to promote sports on the island of Gozo.” He continued by saying that this Government has always worked to support all our sportspeople and recognise everything they manage to achieve.
Associations and clubs are invited to submit their nominations for one or more of these categories based on performances and achievements in the year 2024 at events held in Gozo, Malta or abroad. Individuals may nominate another individual only where there is no club or association of the respective sport. Where there is an association or club, nominations may not be submitted by individuals.
The categories that will be awarded are:
- Officer of the year: a person who serves in the administration of an Association, Club or event;
- Coach of the Year: a qualified person who was recruited by an Association, Club or regional selection;
- Team of the Year: a team that represented Gozo or a local Club;
- Recognition for an active Athlete over 45 years of age (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning);
- Recognition for a Sports Career: (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning);
- Special Olympics Special Recognition (selected by the Services Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning);
- Promising Youngster: A youngster not older than 21 years of age who has represented Gozo or a local Club;
- Promising young person: A young person not older than 21 years of age who has represented Gozo or a local Club;
- Sportswoman of the Year: A sportswoman not nominated in the Promising Young Person category who has represented Gozo or a local Club; and
- Sportsperson of the Year: A sportsperson not nominated in the Promising Young Person category who represented Gozo or a local Club.
Applications for the Gozo Sports Awards will open on Monday, 25th August 2025, and can be submitted online at mygozo.gov.mt or gozo.gov.mt Applications must be submitted by noon on Friday, 12th September 2025. The results will be announced during the final evening which will take place on Thursday, 9th October, 2025.
Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that the Ministry is committed to continuing to support Gozitan sportspeople so that they can continue to make a name for our country even abroad.
