Dilapidated building in Valletta converted into a residence for families

Social housing project in Valletta

The Minister for Social and Affordable Housing Roderick Galdes inaugurated a new social housing building in Valletta. From a building that required structural work and renovation, today this building is being given life again so that it can accommodate appropriate accommodation with dignity.

In a speech during the inauguration, Minister Roderick Galdes explained that this could be made possible through an investment of around €340,000. The Minister went on to explain how today this building is being given back to the community through social housing.

This building is part of a number of social housing initiatives whereby buildings in need of renovation are given the necessary work and given to families in need of state assistance. Some of these initiatives are being carried out in Valletta, thus also helping to regenerate the capital city.

The minister called the building a link, even if a small one, in a much larger chain of social and affordable housing projects that the government has launched in recent years.

The Minister recalled that last year the Housing Authority allocated more than 550 new units in various localities and work is currently underway on other buildings in various localities, including in Ħal Farruġ where, with an investment of around €40 million, around 270 apartments and 300 parking spaces will be built.

Chief Executive of the Housing Authority, Matthew Zerafa, stated that projects such as these continue to strengthen the stock of social accommodation offered by the Housing Authority in the heart of communities.

The Housing Authority worked in collaboration with Housing Projects Solutions Ltd to carry out this renovation project.
