At the national swimming pool in Tal-Qroqq, Prime Minister Robert Abela visited a training session of athlete Neil Agius ahead of his ‘The Gozo 7’ challenge between 31 August and 6 September.

This initiative will involve a 15-hour daily swim covering 42 kilometres, for seven consecutive days around the island of Gozo.

In a few words, Robert Abela and Neil Agius discussed the intensive preparations currently underway, where the Maltese athlete is preparing himself for the situations he will encounter at sea and is working hard on his breathing which will be crucial to succeeding in his goal.

They stressed that such an activity brings people closer to the concept of motivation in favour of a healthy life.

Neil Agius said that the challenge is very difficult but he knows that with it he will be increasing people’s interest in physical activity and mental health. He also mentioned that it is his intention to give prominence to the island of Gozo with this swim.

While praising the Maltese athlete’s commitment, Dr Abela said that another important message in favour of a healthy life is nutrition, which in his words must be given more importance.

They agreed that food is the basis of personal development, because when you eat better you will rest better, be healthier and stay focused throughout the day.

Neil Agius thanked the Prime Minister for the interest he always shows in his work and initiatives.
